How it works
What happens when you get in touch
Contacting a legal service for the first time can feel daunting. Here is exactly what to expect, step by step, from your first enquiry to agreeing any further work.
The enquiry process
Five clear stages
Submit an initial enquiry
Use our online form, call or email. Give a short summary of what has happened, the key dates and the people or organisations involved.
Share relevant information
We may ask a few follow-up questions, or for copies of key documents such as letters, contracts or accident reports. We will tell you what is useful and how to send it.
Receive an initial response
During your free initial consultation, we clarify the issues and explain the possible next steps, including any urgent deadlines.
Discuss whether we can help
We let you know whether your matter falls within the services we provide. If it does not, we will try to point you to a more suitable source of help.
Agree next steps and fees
If you would like to proceed, we confirm in writing the scope of the work, the likely costs and how they will be funded. Nothing goes further without your agreement.
Important to know
An enquiry is not the same as legal advice
Information on this website, and the general guidance given during an initial enquiry, is not formal legal advice about your situation. Formal advice can only be given once we have the full facts and you have formally instructed us.
Submitting an enquiry does not create a solicitor–client relationship. A client relationship begins only when the scope of the work and the terms of engagement have been agreed in writing.
Watch out for deadlines
Many legal claims are subject to strict time limits, and some court deadlines are very short. If you have received court papers or a formal notice, or you think a time limit may be close, please tell us when you first get in touch.
Keep your documents safe
Do not destroy letters, emails, photographs or receipts that may be relevant, even if they seem unimportant. Please do not send sensitive records through the enquiry form.
Fees and funding
Clear information about costs
Your initial consultation is free. If you decide to go further, we will explain the likely costs and the funding options that may be available for your type of matter before any chargeable work begins.
Depending on the matter, funding options may include fixed fees, hourly rates, conditional fee agreements or existing legal expenses insurance. Not every option is suitable for every case, and we will explain which may apply to you.
To be confirmed by the business: Add your confirmed fee structures, any published price information required by your regulator, and the funding arrangements you offer. Do not advertise “no win, no fee” until the business confirms it is available.
